Finding Refuge in Change.

I lost a dear friend just this past week. One, whose very presence breathed joy to my soul, and whose smile always found the means to lift me.

In a single breath, he was gone; torn away through fate’s unforgiving hand.

There is no greater pain than that of sudden loss.

Though our life circumstance certainly speak to the inevitability of change, we are never quite ready for it, are we?

We hold pace with the comforts of consistency; marking happiness through those moments in between.

And, then…

We fear the change, yet – isn’t change another word for living? Our lives bear testimony to the grace of impermanence. A chance meeting leading to a forever kind of love; friendship gifted through the literal opening of doors.

In this light, we recognize change as a catalyst for joy. Even in our greatest sorrow, we are gifted this blessing of transformation.

And, we are never once the same again.

Layer by layer, Spirit is revealed – asking only that we have faith enough to believe, to trust; to venture forward in spite of our greatest fear:

That we, alone, are not nearly enough to weather the storms ahead.

Am I sad today? My darlings, of course – yes. But I realize this sorrow is also impermanent; inevitably, all things must change.

Even as I watch the leaves fall to Autumn’s slumber, I know – there’s a magnificent Spring ahead. Though I can not yet see it, feel it, or embrace it’s wonder – still, I know it’s there.

My darlings, even when our hearts yield a fractured mess – we must never lose faith in the ‘spring’ ahead.

And, so…

While others may choose to run away, I choose to stay. To watch each leaf, metaphorically speaking. To marvel in this magnificent swatch of colors, from ambered golds to crimsoned reds.

Knowing, that this depth of beauty is realized only through change.

Though, I am saddened by this loss; I shall feel them always upon rustling wind. Even when the leaves have fallen to rest, they go on to exist in other ways.

“So you must not be frightened if a sadness rises up before you larger than any you have ever seen,” shares Rainer Maria Rilke. “You must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand; it will not let you fall.”

Namaste, my dearest loves and thank you for the gift that is you ❤️
