This Light of Love.

I remember attending a lecture once many years ago. A young woman stood bravely to ask, “How can one person expect to create a lasting change in this world?”

She was visibly distraught; her hands trembling as she attempted to steady the microphone.

“How can we possibly share love in the shadow of so much hate?” she asked again.

Her words were not lost on this audience, a gathering of spiritual leaders discussing the topic of world peace. Though the lecture had been planned months in advance, it had ironically coincided with the events of 9/11.

Our world community had changed; and the extent of this injury was, as of yet, unknown. Though, gone were the days of feeling safe in our ‘homes’, as the heaviness of fear encroached upon even the most centered of heart.

We were alone, yet oddly connected; our faith wrapped around us like the tattered edges of a cloak.

The lecturer stood, exiting the stage to stand before this young woman directly.

“How can we, indeed?” he asked, taking her hand within his. “We alone can not change the world. But, love? I think love’s got a shot.”

In an instant, we understood his point. That is to say, peace is not an action, rather – it is an energy of heart.

We see things so linearly, as a means to an end. Though, sometimes – the way is not so clear. Sometimes love is the only way.

On that day, I returned to write a little reminder on my mirror:

“Love, until we become one with love.”

They are the first words to greet me every single day, empowering me to make a difference.

And, so – I love. I set out each day with one simple purpose – that is, to carry a little more love into this world.

Though, we may sometimes might lose hope’s light in the shadows of hate – trust, the light is always there, my loves…simply waiting to be revealed.

A little something to consider, my friends. In the end, it is the energy of love which drives the change.

Namaste ❤️
