The Story of Our Stories.

I’ve been thinking this morning about our inclination to get ‘stuck’ in our stories.

Specifically, our inability to look past the emotional trigger and into the truth of our being. How easily we submit to that well-worn habitual path, when – instead, we might engage the opportunity.

That is to say – to recognize and ultimately disentangle from the rigidity of our own fixed way of thinking.

Well, that can’t be so difficult – now, can it? Oh, but beware of that ‘second arrow’. Meaning, those moments in which we venture past circumstance and into our editorial review.

Think about your yesterday, my loves. How often did you begin a sentence with, “I’m so…”, “He’s such a…” or “If only…”?

Though sometimes, even though we recognize the habit – still, we just can’t seem to help ourselves. The mind wishes to offer context and opinion; to establish reason where there may simply be none. The consequence of which can be truly limiting, as — the more we offer that tired old narrative, the more it seems to be the only explanation.

And so, the cycle continues.

We need to learn to let go of our stories, my loves. Or, at least to recognize that we are an active contributor – and, as such equally responsible. In doing so, we can make room for what matters – to water the seeds we most wish to grow.

That of charity, hope, love and purpose. But more so, to ‘just let it go.’

From Theravadan teacher, Achaan Chah:

“Do everything with a mind that lets go. Do not expect any praise or reward. If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of peace. If you let go completely, you will know complete peace and freedom. Your struggles with the world will have come to an end.”

So, on this day my loves – I encourage you to offer a ‘hush’ to that nagging voice in between; and do everything with a mind that lets go.

Remember, it’s your story, darlings ~ it begins and ends just as you choose it.

Namaste ❤️
