This Blessing of Brokenness.

“We are all broken by something,” shares Bryan Stevenson. “We have all hurt someone and have been hurt. We all share the condition of brokenness even if our brokenness is not equivalent.”

On this premise, we must be willing to embrace our vulnerability – to allow the sensitivity of grace into our limited self-perspective.

We are all broken, and – we have all at some point injured another. And, yet? We permit the crushing weight of guilt, of regret. We lose ourselves inside an often unforgiving energy. As a result, how sad that we are at times unwilling to forgive ourselves.

The writer Thomas Merton once said, “Sometimes we’re fractured by the choices we make; sometimes we’re shattered by things we would never have chosen. But our brokenness is also the source of our common humanity.”

My darlings, in this sense – our brokenness serves as the basis of our healing. Tempering the edges of that which is often denied.

We’ve all known unimaginable pain, my loves – and, we’ve all known the energy of having felt uplifted. And, for just this reason – we must know our choice:

The choice, of course, to embrace our humanness.

For when we are absolutely, to-the-core human… we may finally connect. We may connect with our neighbor, our associates, our friends. We may even connect with those we haven’t yet met.

At its roots, our brokenness is the source of our compassion – it yields to create the blessing of equanimity and love.

Though, likewise – it has created a sense of caution, of fear. We turn tail and run before we’ve yet to understand.

There is a great leap of faith that occurs each day. One in which we must ultimately decide, to embrace our humanity and commit to healing. Or, to live out our days cowering beneath these shadows of fear.

For me?

I’ll choose my brokenness every single time.

In peace…

  • The clouds may be dark and threatening, or churn and spit out lightning, or be sheared by hurricane winds… but even though all such brokenness is in the sky, the sky is unaffected. Just so, although we all have our clouds, we are not all broken – none are, for we are consciousness, the sky. Blessings, dear Tara. <3
