Letting Fear Lead the Way.

When I was a little girl, I loved climbing barefoot through the trees. I’d scale to the highest of heights, swinging precariously between the branches – and thinking nothing of the ground below.

In those days, I wasn’t yet beholden to fear. I didn’t think about the dangers of a weakened branch, or the probability of a slipped open grip. I thought only of the freedom, and this gift of ‘knowing the sky.’ I thought only of being a kid.

And then one day, I fell from a great height – scraping my back and knocking the wind from my lungs. In an instant, I became suddenly aware. I felt the stinging pain of this freshly opened wound, and the warmth of tears now filling my eyes.

Though, by far worse yet – I realized my limitations in this physical realm.

From that moment on, fear became a constant (and unwanted) companion. Though certainly, I did my best to distance – it seems, I was always reminded; reminded of the stinging pain which inevitably accompanies a fall.

None of us are immune to fear, my loves. We feel its presence within our day-to-day, lurking in the undercurrents of our spiritual realm. At one extreme, we may feel paralyzed though its appearance. While at the other, we may face an overwhelming urge to flee.

Though instinct may suggest either one path or another – what if there was yet another ‘middle way’? What if the path is to experience the fear – to “advance fearlessly without hesitation.” To feel it, to experience it – then let it go?

And always, while remembering – that true fearlessness is born from the energy of fear. In the end, it’s always our choice – to run from or become empowered through it.

A little something to consider, my loves…

In peace…
